Overview: 

Accounting for Energy – An Operational and Strategic Imperative will provide you with the skills, knowledge and tools to successfully manage the energy-related issues that affect your role. This course will help you to recognise and deal with the risks in energy management and help you to identify the opportunities that also exist in Australia, allowing you to operate more strategically and to contribute to your organisation’s sustainability objectives.

Module 1 - Introduction to Energy

This module sets the scene and overviews:

  • the drivers for accounting for energy including current and emerging energy legislation and regulation
  • the benefits of good energy management practices and
  • energy management policy

Module 2 - Information Analysis

In this module you will focus on:

  • Effectively engaging with energy stakeholders
  • Establishing your energy baseline and benchmarking your energy consumption
  • Continuously monitoring and targeting energy consumption.

Module 3 - Risk & Opportunity

The focus of this module is:

  • mitigating energy risks including compliance, energy security and social licence
  • identifiying the energy opportunities that also exist to reduce expenditure, make savings and access funding

Module 4 - Appraisal Methods

In this module, you will cover:

  • standard accounting methods to use in energy management
  • other tools to assess the viability of a range of energy projects
  • a comprehensive case study that will help you to put these tools into practice

Module 5 - Reporting & Strategic Objectives

In this module you will look at how the skills and knowledge you gain on this course feed into energy reporting and your organisation's strategic objectives.

Module 6 - Your Action Plan & Toolkit

In this final module, you will focus on moving your learning from the theoretical to the practical, enabling you to put what you have learned on this course into practice back in the workplace. We will also give you a toolkit which contains a lot of practical information and tools, including:
